Our annual Dip in the Nip took place on a bright morning on May 7th, 2018 at Silverstand Beach in Co. Galway. This was our 9th annual Charity skinny-dip and the weather couldn’t have been better!
This year we were blessed with having amazing sponsors –
The Sheeben – A portable thatch pub who provided shelter and a perfect place to serve hot and cold beverages from
Boxty’s – The local innovative Irish food truck from Oranmore put on an incredible spread for our brave dippers including hot and cold options
Micil Poitin – The local Poitin producer who gave all the participants, old and new, a little Dutch courage
The event started first thing on the Bank Holiday, and began with a short Zumba warm up, by Alex – who has been helping on this event for years! Then our brave participants, including a few of our favourite rugby players, braved the cold Atlantic Ocean and got their kits off for cancer. Some ran in and out quicker than others, and a few didn’t even seem to notice the chilly waters! When everybody (thanks to the Ambulance service and lifeguards) made it out safely, we all were able to sit down and enjoy a hot plate of food and tea and coffee followed by a nip of the Poitin.
The event was concluded with a ceremony around the wishing tree led by Alex, where everyone tied a ribbon to the tree to symbolize a wish for the coming year.
A very big thank you to everyone who helped fundraise, took part and sponsored the event. You make our work possible!
2019 will be the Dip’s 10 year anniversary – can you believe it?! We look forward to seeing you there!
